Differentiating for African American Students

What Teachers, Administrators, and School Teams Need to Know and Do to Close the Achievement Gap

Free for Reading First and SETPD Districts/Schools

Participants will learn to differentiate instruction for African American Students by:

  • Using excellent instructional strategies, interactions, and content which work especially well with students who have not experienced academic success.
  • Becoming familiar and recognizing varieties of African American language constructions and meanings, and their implications to teaching and learning.
  • Addressing academic needs and strengths of students in regular education classrooms and in special education classrooms.
  • Planning to work with the school community to create an equitable and anti-racist school environment to acquire excellence.
  • Teaching partnership strategies to involve families of students in their children’s education.
