Differentiating for African American Students
What Teachers, Administrators, and School Teams Need to Know and Do to Close the Achievement Gap

Participants will learn to differentiate instruction for African American Students by:
- Using excellent instructional strategies, interactions, and content which work especially well with students who have not experienced academic success.
- Becoming familiar and recognizing varieties of African American language constructions and meanings, and their implications to teaching and learning.
- Addressing academic needs and strengths of students in regular education classrooms and in special education classrooms.
- Planning to work with the school community to create an equitable and anti-racist school environment to acquire excellence.
- Teaching partnership strategies to involve families of students in their children’s education.
